Ingredients
- 1 lb Sweet or hot Italian sausage, skinned and chopped
- 3/4 lb Ground Beef
- 1/2 c Onion, minced
- 2 Garlic cloves, crushed
- 2 tbsp. Parsley, chopped
- 34 oz Can of Italian-style plum tomatoes, mashed
- 16 oz Seasoned Tomato Sauce
- 12 oz Tomato Paste (two 6 oz cans)
- 1/2 c Water
- 1 1/2 tbsp. Basil
- 1 tbsp. Sugar
- 1 tbsp. Salt
- 1 tsp. Italian Seasoning
- 1/2 tsp. Fennel Seed
- 1/4 tsp. Pepper
- 12 Lasagne Noodles
- 16 oz Ricotta or Cottage Cheese
- 1/2 Egg
- 2 tbsp. Parsley Chopped
- 1/2 tsp. Salt
Assembly
- Lasagne Noodles
- Meat Sauce
- Ricotta Mixture
- 3/4 lb Mozzarella Cheese slices, divided
- 3/4 c Grated Parmesan , divided
Instructions
- Sauté sausage, beef, onion, and garlic until well browned. Add next 11 ingredients and simmer covered for 1 1/2 hours, stirring occasionally.
- Cook noodles according to directions. Drain and rinse with cold water.
- Combine ricotta cheese (or cottage cheese) with egg, parsley, and half teaspoon salt.
- To assemble, spoon 1 1/2 cups of meat sauce onto the bottom of a 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking dish. Arrange 6 noodles lengthwise over meat sauce. Spread with half the ricotta cheese mixture. Top with a third of the mozzarella cheese slices. Spoon 1 1/2 cups of meat sauce over mozzarella and sprinkle with 1/4 cup of parmesan cheese.
- Add in layers the remaining noodles, ricotta cheese mixture, half the remaining mozzarella and remaining meat sauce.
- Top with remaining mozzarella slices and sprinkle with parmesan cheese.
- Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes at 375 degrees F. Remove foil and bake 25 additional minutes. Remove from oven. Cool 15 minutes before serving.
