The first time I tasted a Very Vera caramel cake, I thought she had kidnapped my grandmother and forced her to bake.  For years, I bought caramel cakes and red velvet cakes and meals for myself and as gifts.  It broke my heart when Vera decided to close her mail order business because I could never duplicate her delicacies using recipes I found in other cookbooks.  But now I have hope because of her cookbook.  Now, if I can just get her to my kitchen to make sure I’m doing everything right.
