Ingredients
- 6 shortcakes
- 2 tbsp. butter, melted
- 1 tsp. turbinado sugar
- 4 c fresh berries (mixed or all one kind), rinsed and drained
- 2 tsp. white sugar, or more if the berries are not sweet
- Whipped cream
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F.
- Crumble the shortcakes onto a baking sheet and sprinkle with the butter and turbinado sugar. Bake about 15 minutes, or until crunchy and golden brown. Let cool on the sheet on a cooling rack.
- If using strawberries, cut in quarters. Sprinkle the berries with the white sugar and refrigerate for up to 2 hours.
- Layer your trifle in a glass bowl. Start with a layer of whipped cream, then berries, then shortcake. Repeat, using up the ingredients. Finish with a layer of whipped cream and the small crumbs that remain from the crumbled shortcakes. Serve immediately.
