Filming with My 3 Sons

This weekend a very special episode of The VeryVera Show is airing! Entitled, “My 3 Sons” this episode holds a special place in my heart. Don’t worry – I’m not recreating an episode of the classic 60’s sitcom. Rather, my three sons, Cord, John and Daniel, join me for an episode where I make their favorite dinners. Filmed in my own home, this certainly took me back to the many meals I would fix for my boys as they grew up!

First we started with Daniel’s favorite, broiled chicken with rice and gravy. This chicken is crispy and delicious. Daniel is the president and COO of his own digital marketing and branding firm called Wier/Stewart. Daniel and his wife Catherine have two boys and are expecting a third child this summer!

Next, John’s favorite, country-fried steak with milk gravy and mashed potatoes. This gravy is the kind your grandmother used to make and I’ll let you in on a secret, the key ingredient is a shake or two of Kitchen Bouquet. John has three girls with his wife Mallory and is a radiation oncologist.

Lastly, Cord’s favorite is braised lamb shanks. These are incredibly tender and when paired with garlic mashed potatoes or polenta they make a rich dinner. Cord is the Vice President of investments at Stifel Financial and has two children with his wife Mary Margaret.

My favorite part of the show was that the boys all got to sit down and talk about a special memory from their childhood. We all had a laugh when Daniel showed how he inherited “the look” from me! John disclosed his childhood past time of trying to steal cookies out of our pottery cookie jar. And Cord talked about how I came to become “Granny V” when his first daughter Pinckney was born, and we even had a little fun arm-wrestling.

I hope you’ll enjoy this episode. We had a lot of fun filming it! All three recipes are available online by clicking on the images or through the links below.
