This weekend we celebrated Ward Wingfield Stewart’s 1st birthday. Ward is Catherine’s maiden name and Wingfield is mine. I’ve had fun watching him grow this year alongside his brother, and I have often reminisced to when his dad, Daniel, and his older brother, John, did the same things and had completely opposite personalities.

The closeness in age for McClendon and Ward will cause some fights along the way as they reach for the same toys and want to be first on anything they do together.  In the long run, it will be such an asset. I can’t wait to watch all the milestones and be part of the history book that Catherine is creating for them.

Happy Birthday Wardy Boy!

As an idea for a birthday cake for a little boy, here my son’s favorite Pluck-It Cake that they can zoom past and enjoy in between all of the games they’ll be playing at the party.

Pluck-it Cake

  • 1 ½ large cans buttermilk biscuits
  • 1 stick butter
  • 1 cup dark brown sugar
  • ¾ tsp cinnamon
  • ½ tsp nutmeg

Melt the butter, sugar and spices in a saucepan. Open up the biscuits and cut each biscuit into fourths. Place ½ of the biscuits with the rounded edges toward the pan and then cover with sauce. Repeat with the rest of the biscuits and sauce. Bake at 300°F for 35-40 minutes.
